Château les Mailleries - Bergerac

A CHARMER WITH SPICES AND BLACK FRUIT NOTES

DOMAINE FABIEN CASTAING - CHÂTEAU LES MAILLERIES - BERGERAC RED

This organic wine is composed of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec grapes. This wine is typical of the Bergerac region and offers an intense nose with notes of black fruits and spices. Its fermentation in stainless steel vats and a long rest in vats make it a greedy and aromatic wine.

This A.O.C Bergerac is the entry level wine of Château Les Mailleries, served at the right temperature it will go perfectly with red meat, game, duck breast or cheese. It is a pleasant wine to drink, and you will be charmed by its roundness and its full and rich tannins.

Fabien Castaing is the 5th generation of the family that created the historic Domaine de Moulin-Pouzy in 1898 in the communes of Cunèges and Pomport in the Dordogne.

It is an exceptional site nestled at an altitude of almost 150m in the communes of Sigoulès and Thénac, south of Bergerac. The richness of the soils - limestone, flint, clay, boulbène - combined with the diversity of the grape varieties planted, allow the production of rich and complex wines.

The estate produces AOC Bergerac and AOC Bergerac white.

Close to the Atlantic Ocean, the Dordogne valley has a temperate oceanic climate. Winters are mild and rainy while summers are cool and relatively humid. The mildness of these temperatures favors an early start of the vine.

The sunny late seasons allow a good maturation or over-ripening of the grapes.

I was contacted by Fabien Castaing on LinkedIn asking me if I was interested in his wines to expand my range, followed by a series of exchanges by message and phone, and we agreed to work together, he is ready to follow me in all my projects and he is very cooperative during difficult exchanges with customers. We talk often and he gives me a lot of ideas, it's a great collaboration. Even though it is a rather large estate in total size, he likes work well done and remains faithful to the respect of the vine and the soil. He is a precursor of the organic work and of the HVE3 certification, his estate is among the first to have obtained the certification in 2013.
