This wine is one of the first wines elaborated by Julien Delhomme, the producer and owner of the domain. It is a typical wine of the Vacqueyras appellation, made of Grenache and Mourvèdre, a structured wine with a greedy and spicy aroma. It should be opened about 2 hours before drinking.
The structure of this wine makes it, as we say in the trade, a wine for meals. It is endowed with an elegant and appealing aromatic made of red fruits and spices, but this aromatic needs to be revealed, hence the need to open the bottle first, or, if you are not patient, to decant to appreciate its roundness and its present but pleasant tannins. It will go very well with meats in sauce, game, but also with beautiful pieces of grilled beef.
Domaine Julien Delhomme is a 7.5-hectare estate. The vines in AOP Vacqueyras are on the plateau of the garrigues between Vacqueyras and Sarrians on a stony soil. The average age of the vines is 45 years. The estate is run in organic agriculture with one part in conversion and the other already certified.
The Cuvée Louis H will be certified organic on the 2023 vintage
Julien took over the estate in 2015, or rather took over the old cellar of his uncle Louis Hugues left without maintenance, after a BTSA Viticulture-Œnologie and a few years of training in different areas including the domain Leccia in Corsica.
His motto is "Respect for nature and mankind through clean work".
The first time I met Julien was at the "Découvertes" exhibition in the Rhone Valley, I discovered a shy boy, his nails and hands blackened by working in the vineyard. I really appreciated his wines from the first time, and we were both young entrepreneurs at that time. So, Julien said to me, "We started at the same time, why not try to grow at the same time?"
Since then, we have been following each other, he has evolved much more than I have, but he still works just as well, and he still needs me to be his English interpreter!
