This I.G.P Vaucluse (Protected Geographical Indication) wine is a subtle blend of Merlot and Grenache. The Grenache brings a nice red fruit, while the Merlot brings the particular touch of spices, hence the name given to it.
This wine is part of the initial range of the domain. This wine has a dark purple color, due to the Merlot grape variety, and offers a rich palette of aromas and spices. This wine is pleasant to drink, has melted tannins and a certain roundness, it can be easily matched with a good platter of cold cuts or a beautiful red meat. It can even be enjoyed a little chilled to appreciate its aromas. A wine to share with friends.
Château d'Hugues is a family wine estate located in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône Méridionales, in the commune of Uchaux, on the southern slopes of the hills of the "Massif d'Uchaux", labelled H.V.E 3 since July 2020.
This vineyard produces Vins de Pays (I.G.P), Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Village.
The name of the Château comes from the name of the D'Hugues family, originally from Languedoc, who built it in the 1690's. Several generations followed until 1869, when the Pradier family acquired it. Then, in 1988, Sylviane and Bernard took over from a long line of winemakers.
In 2017, Grégory Payan succeeded them after having been their vineyard manager for nearly 10 years.
He is a winemaker with a big heart and a love for his vineyard and his terroir. When I met Grégory, I was immediately fascinated by the way he tells us about his job as a winegrower, his love for a job well done and artisanal. He manages everything in the vineyard and in the cellar right up to the bottling. Our collaboration was made naturally during an umpteenth tasting of his beautiful wines, he had a real need to develop export but he had never found the time, we made the bet to try, Gregory even told me that he hoped to put a clock on each country where we would manage to export.
